More about the Artist...Meena comes from a highly talented and musical family. She learned music from her father, Sediq (a doctor, professional harmonium player and singer), and her brother Sabawoon (a maestro of the Afghan rubab, santoor, and piano). Her bright academics, passion, deep love, and study of music (Pashto and Hindustani classical) and many talents helped her master one of the world's most intricate and challenging instruments, the sitar, the "iconic sound" of the Eastern world (mainly the Indian Subcontinent). In addition to learning the playing styles of her gurus, over the years, she nourished, enriched, and developed her own style of playing music and sitar. She has incredible hand and finger dexterity evident in her fine, delicate, unique, and impressive sonic embellishments. For example, on sitar, she gracefully oscillates and glides between multiple notes with celestial delicacy.
Her music has a peaceful and calming effect in her live concerts. In her home studio, she enjoys improvisation and creating gorgeous sitar covers of her favorite composers that appeal to all audiences. She has a way of fusing Eastern and Western tunes that is very enamoring and refreshing. She performs both as a solo artist and as a member of her orchestra, "Pan-Asian Intercultural Ensemble."
